Sunshine House wreath in action!
Main Street Market is again selling beautiful Sunshine House wreaths! Not only are they lovely, the funds go to a very worthy cause!
I realize that today it is 50 degrees, foggy and drizzling – but I am certain we are going to get enough snow soon to make everything look more festive!
Ivana and Santa – 2012
Egg Harbor’s HollyDays starts off with Breakfast with Santa at the Landmark Resort. Steve’s brother and his wife and 3 children and Grandma Jeri are usually the first ones to have breakfast with Santa - at 8:30 am Friday morning.
This year, Adam took Ivana and 8 Northrops had breakfast, made some cute crafts and the younger ones sat on Santa’s lap!
It is really a nice event and was quite busy when the Northrop clan left to go home!
Oh and by the way, our Pepper Tree won the HollyDays Tree Contest. HoHoHo.
Pepper Tree
Many years ago, the Village of Egg Harbor decided to create a holiday scheme for the entire village. Small trees decorated with white lights and red bows – up and down the streets of the village at businesses and homes alike.
For some crazy reason, the Egg Harbor Business Association decided that since everybody didn’t want to decorate the same, we should have a contest. This year, I am a judge. When I got the form, I saw that Main Street Market was listed as a contestant! We did not sign up for the contest, but I decided we would try to decorate our two trees in a theme appropriate for Main Street Market.
Saturday, Jeanne and I thought the mini colored (delicious, by the way) peppers would make pretty garlands and the regular sized peppers would make colorful ornaments. Jeanne sewed the garlands, hung the ornaments, Nick cored a pineapple and planted it as a topper – and voila!
We had lots of other ideas, but most would have created a buffet for animals, so we stuck with just peppers. As soon as this silly contest is over the pepper decorations are coming off and we will just have pretty trees!
In the meantime – I hope we win!

Baked Spaghetti, Roasted Vegetables
Now that it is fall, and dark by 5:00, I will be spending more time in my beautiful kitchen cooking. This is one of my favorite cold weather dinner menus – pretty, delicious and it makes enough to feed a bunch!
The baked spaghetti recipe came from a magazine years ago and became a favorite of our kids. Any leftovers freeze and reheat well. The recipe is on page 126 of Edgewood Orchard Galleries An Artist’s Food for the Soul cookbook. When I get my recipe widget working I’ll post it – in the meantime Main Street Market sells the book!
Roasted vegetables are super easy. The main thing is to separate them by cooking times; otherwise some are undercooked, some are overcooked. I cut my vegetables in chunks and throw them in a bowl with a little good olive oil, kosher salt, cracked black pepper and perhaps a little thyme. Set the oven at 375 degrees, convection of you have it – a liitle hotter oven if you don’t.
Onions take about 35-40 minutes, peppers (I love the little mini multi-colored peppers we sell in the bags) 20 minutes, and tomatoes (I used Campari’s cut in fourths) – 10-15 minutes. The vegetables cook down; it may look like you have a lot before they are roasted. Spread the onions on a baking or cookie sheet, after 15 minutes, add the peppers, after another 10-15 minutes add the tomatoes. Stir them together, shake the pan to keep the seasonings moving, take the pan out of the oven and you are done.
Add fresh green salad, a loaf of crusty bread or rolls, a bottle of good wine and any meat or other entree and you have a really nice healthy dinner. (I hope my sister sees this – she is a novice in the kitchen and I told her I’d tell her how to make these!)
