What a weekend! Fortunately, the Main Street Market did not lose power during last Thursday night’s ferocious storm. I don’t know how or why, but the majority of the Village of Egg Harbor had juice throughout the siege. Thank goodness! We sold a lot of coffee and water Friday morning, then people backed off the coffee a bit as they realized that with no power, there is also no water. No water means no toilets – a concept that is not readily obvious to most people who live in cities! We ran out of D batteries and water Saturday afternoon; we let people fill their water jugs from our faucets outside – good enough for flushing.
Somehow, our house did not lose power either. Our neighbors to the north, south, east and west were all dark – Daisy Patch Rd. was an oasis of light. We did lose some very large trees in the woods on the northeast side of our yard. Very large – two uprooted which broke at least two more when they fell. So when Steve left the store Friday and Saturday he got out his chainsaw and cut logs from the felled trees. Sam was home and the two of them played lumberjack – and ended up with some very sore muscles.
The logs in the picture are from two of the trees. Sunday afternoon Steve and I walked through the woods and found even more trees under the branches of the biggest trees that fell. We have enough firewood for a very long time.
