Sam Northrop turned 23 years old Wednesday – hard to believe! I am sure many of our long-time customers will be appalled to know that Sam is 23. People still remember him as the baby sleeping in his car seat on the front counter, then as the little kid who spent every morning “working”. Grandpa Tom would wheel Sam around on the 2-wheeler – then they would go to Lena’s for a Kingsbury!

The funniest story about Sam’s birth day involves Trissa Crowley. Sam was 2 weeks overdue, so every day I was asked when this baby was going to be born! Trissa was in the store the morning of April 25, 1989 – and asked me that very question. I told her today – I was in labor and just waiting for Steve to finish so we could leave and go to the hospital. I thought she was going to have a heart attack! She was ready to take over for Steve in the meat department herself so we could get going!

For at least 20 of Sam’s 23 years, Trissa has come into the store on April 25. And when I ask her if she knows what day it is, she laughs, because she doesn’t – until I ask. It is the strangest coincidence – or is it?
