Ivana on her 4th Birthday

I mentioned earlier that our granddaughter Ivana was living in Door County for 7 weeks this summer. She came the Saturday of Memorial Weekend and went back home to Madison on her birthday, July 16.

We had a birthday party for her the day before she left; this was her “princess of the party” crown and scepter. We also celebrated the birthdays of Missy and Kathy Diltz; alas they did not get crowns to wear!

The biggest hits of the party were bubbles for Ivana (and Regan and Missy) and a very large tub of tapioca pudding for Kathy! She was so excited.

Dave and Vonnie said their house is a little quiet this week without Ivana – Vonnie misses her in the morning and Dave misses her at night. During the day, she absolutely loved the Northern Door Child Care Center – and the beach. Anyway, it was time for her to go back home. Her mother Maggie spent most of that time in Nepal on an internship for school. Adam went to visit, then on to Portugal and Ireland before returning to Madison.

It hardly seems like 4 years since Ivana was born. Man, children grow up fast!

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Sponsors

Last Monday night, Main Street Market was one of the sponsors for The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band concert at DCA. One of the perks of sponsorship is that you get to meet the artists and get your picture taken with them. Plus – a signed poster, much goodwill and a little rubbing up against a star or two!

Bill and Poo Calkins and the Main Street Market gang with the Nitty Gritty guys! They were great!

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

I love the name of this band! Main Street Market is sponsoring The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Monday night at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek. The show starts at 7:00 and tickets are still available. It should be a great show!

Taking a Bow

The July 4th Parade in Egg Harbor wouldn’t be the same without the Main Street Market Cart Brigade! These intrepid kids(who are all in the midst of an extremely hard workweek), takes their decorated grocery carts and smartly executed routine to the streets of Egg Harbor. The carts are also loaded with water balloons for the parade goers who assault them from the sidelines with water guns and balloons.

However, most of the water balloons are reserved for the Market itself! They always do a special routine for the store, take a bow – and unleash 100′s of water balloons upon those of us who are too old to march in the parade! We always forewarn the people sitting on the patio and in the yard, but most don’t move and get a bit wet.

We are extremely proud of our brigade – and get tons of compliments from bystanders. The heat this year was brutal, but those water balloons helped!

Thank you!
