Today is Marilyn Anschutz’s birthday – and I will certainly NOT divulge the years! Happy Birthday to one of my favorite people! Our early morning customers love Marilyn – she greets them with a smile and a hearty “good morning” Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays!
Have a wonderful day Marilyn!
This is a sad day for us; Steve’s dad passed away Thursday morning. He was a character, I loved him dearly, and I’ve been privileged to have been a part of this family for over 32 years. I was the first girl in the family – Steve has one younger brother.
Steve and I were a bit surprised by Wayne and Jeri’s decision to move to Door County two months after his retirement. After looking at houses, they decided to look for a piece of property and build a house. They looked for an entire weekend, but couldn’t find anything that they really liked. Steve and I knew of a beautiful piece of land on the bluff in Cherry Bluff Estates, and just kind of offhandedly mentioned it – we thought they would think it was too close to us. But – they loved it, built a beautiful home and fell in love with Door County.
Wayne loved retirement! He had so many hobbies – and golf! One of his biggest laments 3 years ago was the downfall of his game. However, the last time he played golf was with Steve and Sam at The Orchards in 2009. On number 5, Wayne put in a shot from 150 yards out. A fitting end to his golf career!
Wayne has been at Scandia Village since March of 2011. We are so fortunate. The staff and everyone associated with Scandia are amazing, compassionate and extremely qualified people doing an incredibly difficult job. This past year has been a struggle, but Wayne was so well taken care of and a small part of his personality – funny and flirtatious – came out with his caregivers. We have all been touched by the heartfelt goodbyes said to Wayne by so many people at Scandia Village.
Saturday we will celebrate his life with a party at our home. We are serving Taylor Golden Sherry – Wayne’s golden nectar! Last night, the family toasted Wayne – we all decided it wasn’t as horrible as we thought! Lots of ice helped.
Rest in peace Wayne. We love you.
Today is Dave and Vonnie Callsen’s wedding anniversary! 54 years ago, they snuck out of their respective homes in Madison, WI and eloped! How cool is that? I don’t think we (their children) knew about the details of their marriage until many years later; obviously you don’t need a big fancy wedding to cement a long-lasting marriage!
Congratulations – we love you both!
In my last post I congratulated Gerald for his participation in the Door County Half-Marathon. Steve’s Mom, Jeri, is also the recipient of a medal. She and two friends, Dottie Klepp and Marion Sneeberger walked in the Nicolet 5K. These three ladies are in their 70′s and 80′s – and had a blast.
Jeri said it was very interesting and they saw lots of people, some a little odd. Like the man who was brushing his teeth before the race for about 15 minutes, and the man doing needlepoint on a bench during the race. They also saw a lot of people they knew and Jeri said it was really neat to see all the people in crazy attire along the route.
Jeri kept the medal, but gave me the T-shirt! I’ll have to be careful where I wear it!
