Door County AsparagusMain Street Market is ready for the Memorial Day weekend! We are well stocked with fresh Door County asparagus – delicious! We also have Copper River Wild Salmon, fresh for the weekend.

Here is a great recipe for Oven-roasted asparagus with grape tomatoes:

12 oz. asparagus spears, trimmed

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 1/2 cups halved grape tomatoes

2 T.olive oil

1/2 t.coarse salt, 1/4 t.paprika

Heat a convection oven to 400 degrees; 425 conventional. Combine all ingredients in a skillet and toss. Roast for 10-12 minutes. Enjoy!

Last week The Door County Advocate featured a story about Monarch butterfly gardens in the county. The attached picture shows Main Street Market’s Monarch Madness garden in full bloom last July. Stunning, isn’t it!

Door Landscape designed and planted our gardens. We have a plant list in the store – ask for it at the front desk.

I hope it warms up soon – the garden is a bit behind this spring.

Wine Wall Street

Wine Wall Street

Last week I told you about the many wine tastings we’ve been to this month. It may sound glamorous, but it really was a lot of work! My notes were definitely more legible in the first hour or two – but I’ve been to enough of these – I know how to be selective.  Like I said, somebody has to do it!

The tastings are a precursor to our Annual Spring Wine Sale. We have two “Big Sales” a year – spring and fall. After a long hard winter, it is now time to stock up for the summer season ahead. We always give 10% off any 12 bottles; for our sales, we give you 15% off any 12+bottles and 10% any 6-11 bottles.  Wine gets better with a little age, so stocking up is an advantage! Besides, it’s nice to have some good wines on hand for any impromptu gatherings you may have in the next few months.

We encourage you to try some of the new wines we’ve added. It is not unusual to go back to familiar brands, but there is so much good wine in the world – try something new! We’ve tasted just about every wine we sell at one time or another; we can offer advice or recommend our favorites. I think it is much more interesting to serve a variety of wines for dinner or parties – it gives you an opportunity to experiment with foods and different varietals.

So – get a cart and fill it with bottles! We will box it up for you and take it to your car. There is good wine at every price – and at 15% off – you can splurge a little!
